Taper Jon Hart

Jon has lived in the SF Bay area since the ripe age of 6 months old.  His first concert was in the late 60’s when his family took him to see the Jackson 5 at the old Circle Star Theater in San Carlos.  He was taken to his first Grateful Dead show in high school in the late 70’s at Winterland and he has had the music bug ever since.  After his first dead show Jon started trading cassette tapes and this got him into the world of live recordings. Through the 80’s he amassed over 3000 live shows on cassette filling an entire room of walls.

In 1989 Jon attended his first New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. This was the start of Jon’s great love for the city of New Orleans and the musical mecca it is.

Jon purchased his first DAT (digital audio tape) player in 1992 so that he could improve the quality of cassettes he was sharing with others. He started taking his Denon DTR-80 DAT to shows and requesting sound board patches.  At this point he starting actually recording shows and not just trading them. In 2006 Jon purchased a Sound Devices 722 hard drive recorder. This moved him into the world of high definition (24/96) recording. He has since moved to a 4 track Sound Devices deck. Recording is a serious hobby for Jon, he often records 3 or 4 shows a week.

“I am very excited about this project with Floating Records. I look forward to sharing some of my musical experiences with you on the Floating Records website. “
